I've worked at the same clinic for more than 20 years (it's the only job I've ever had!) Sometimes I joke that I've held every position but veterinarian. As anyone that's ever been part of a clinic management team knows, my day can be filled with anything from unclogging toilets to processing payroll to being yelled at by inconsolable clients. I love most things about vet med, from wearing scrubs to smelling puppy breath whenever I want, but I'm most excited about heart worm and flea compliance and consistent communication.
Favorite Vetcove Tip
I find Vetcove easier to use than our veterinary software, so if I need to look up the price of something I search on Vetcove before I turn to my inventory system. I've found this especially handy lately with the influx of ridiculously priced Chewy.com requests! At least now I'm not losing money OR time.
Favorite Veterinary Life Hack
I consider my heart worm and flea bundle to be the clinic's most successful "veterinary hack". When I noticed our flea preventive compliance was growing, apparently at the expense of our heart worm preventive compliance, I knew something needed to change. I created a “bundle and save” package to encourage clients to purchase both heart worm and flea preventive—rather than one or the other—and more than doubled our compliance.
Reasons I love working in the veterinary field
I love working in the veterinary field because I get to work with people AND pets! I truly feel like there's a potential to make a difference every single day whether it be in something like customer service, employee training or anesthesia safety. This industry has endless growth possibilities and you can very easily make it your own. Look at Vetcove--there was a need and someone created a solution. That's our everyday potential!
