Front End Software Engineer

New York, NY Full Time Varies

About Us

Join our growing team at Vetcove and help us transform how veterinarians buy the supplies they need to keep America's pets healthy. Vetcove's eCommerce and mobile platforms enable veterinary practices to compare and buy from all of their vendors in one place. Our community of more than 19,000 veterinary hospitals employs tens of thousands of veterinarians, and delivers care to many millions of animals every year across all 50 states.

We’re a growing team on a mission to modernize the $8B/year U.S. veterinary procurement industry. Simply put, Vetcove helps veterinary organizations spend more time giving care, and less time shopping and comparing across vendors to supply their practices. We're completely revolutionizing the way veterinarians discover and buy products, and how animal health brands engage their veterinary customers.

Vetcove is a Y Combinator and venture-backed growth stage company with notable investors in Silicon Valley and NYC. We're looking for exceptionally talented and passionate people to join our growing team. If you're seeking an exciting challenge and interested in taking this journey with us, email us at careers@vetcove.com.

Job Description

Our team is full-stack capable, working on many pieces of our system. We believe every engineer at Vetcove should have a holistic view of Vetcove and work on many different areas. We encourage you to apply as help us grow a system that faciliates millions of dollars in orders every week.

We move lightning-fast in an industry that was previously slow to adopt technology. As Vetcove quickly expands its offerings to better serve veterinary groups and its supply chain partners, we’re quickly growing our engineering team to keep pace with the rapid expansion of our business, while maintaining exceptional code quality and system integrity.

As a key member of our engineering team, you will be contributing to core features almost immediately. You will be responsible for planning, creation, maintenance, and upgrades across most of the technology stack. We also value engineers that are interested in our business, our mission, and growing the company.

Although we’re looking for someone with a passion for front-end work, the right candidate has had exposure to the full stack of a web application. We are looking for engineers with at least 2 years of professional experience, with references. You should have high proficiency over at least one industry-common language and be conversant (and interested to improve!) in others. As a front end engineer, you will be involved in a number of areas of the system, but you specialize in the following:

JavaScript: You have a great grasp of the language. You’ve worked with ES6 and at least one major frontend framework. You understand how unidirectional data flow works in modern web applications and are comfortable consuming and writing to API endpoints. We primarily use React with Redux.

Markup/CSS: You are comfortable working with and using the latest features (flexbox, animations, responsive selectors, SVG, etc.) and have experience working with new frameworks to make beautiful designs and layouts. You also have experience with a CSS compiler. We focus our development primarily on major browsers (hint: we don’t support i.e. < 11) and mobile web.

Nice to Haves: You have experience working with a backend language, an ORM, and writing API endpoints.

Tools We Use:

You absolutely don’t need experience with all these tools, but in case you were curious:

  • Backend: Python (Django, Django Rest Framework)
  • Frontend: JavaScript (React, Redux), Less.js, Gulp
  • Datastores: Postgres, Elasticsearch, Redis
  • Version Control: Git

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Contributing to the conceptualization and feature documentation of new ideas and product enhancements
  • Building and extending interactive React applications that will be used many thousands of veterinary purchasers, corporate hospital groups owners, and animal health manufacturers.
  • Adding good test coverage
  • Working directly with our CTO and engineering team, and closely with non-engineers.

Our Culture

Vetcove’s work environment and culture is awesome. Everyone here believes in the core mission of helping veterinarians, so a candidate must be a team player, passionate, and a great person. Vetcove believes a happy work place will be a productive one for both the company and the employee.

Vetcove embraces the Silicon Valley workplace structure. We encourage a casual dress, and support a friendly environment where everyone speaks openly and works collaboratively to drive the business forward. We have an open vacation policy and sponsor team lunches, team outings, happy hours when we achieve our goals, and an annual company retreat. Our team is comprised of the industry's absolute best, and we're not shy about the fact that we're looking for the most exceptional people to join our team and take this journey with us.

If you know that you're the candidate we've been looking for please email us at careers@vetcove.com.
